“Thanks” to the community!

On June 2, 2012, the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic held its 5th Annual “Step Up…Care Now” 5K Walk/Run at Joliet Junior College. 103 walkers and runners came out on a beautiful Saturday morning to help raise over $17,400.00 in much-needed funds to support the Clinic.

The Walk is an annual opportunity for our community to Step Up and show you care about your neighbors who find themselves in a situation without health insurance. “Our patients come from many Will and Grundy County communities,” points out WGMC Executive Director, J.D. Ross. “For 24 years, the Free Clinic has provided a medical home for individuals who do not have insurance, funds for medical care or access to government programs.”

We wish to thank our volunteers who helped the event run smoothly, all who participated, and our sponsors who made the event possible:

The Clinic receives no state or federal funds for operations, but relies on the generosity of many individuals and businesses. Last year, with the partnership of our four hospitals (Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers, Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center and Silver Cross Hospital), 301 volunteer medical and dental professionals and 104 volunteer clerical workers, the Clinic provided medical and dental services in excess of $9.7 million.

Ross notes that there are many ways to help the Clinic. “Friends attend our fundraising events and respond to mail campaigns. The Walk is a great way to be a part of all the good things that happen on Cass Street.” Upcoming fundraising events include a Golf Outing on Friday, September 21, 2012 and our Annual Dinner to be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
