Will-Grundy Medical Clinic celebrates 30 years of care

The Will-Grundy Medical Clinic (WGMC) was founded 30 years ago by a group of concerned community members that sought to provide free health care services to the uninsured of Will and Grundy counties.

A collaboration of physicians, nurses, homemakers and administrators volunteered their time to research and study free clinic models across the country. This group formed a task force, and the task force successfully launched the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic.

WGMC is the first and only completely free clinic providing health care to Will and Grundy counties. Their insight, dedication, time and generosity was the foundation of the clinic, and it is a testament to the perseverance of that task force that WGMC is providing care 30 years later.

WGMC offers medical and dental care to adults who do not have health insurance or health care entitlements and those who have limited financial resources.

WGMC operates solely on fundraising efforts and the generous donations of its many supporters. United Ways of Will and Grundy counties, its four partner hospitals  – including Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers – local businesses and many thoughtful individuals contribute to the success of the clinic.

WGMC provides care to over 1,000 people each year, and to date has serviced approximately 150,000 free patient visits.

WGMC is located at 213 E. Cass Street in Joliet and is open to community members of both Will and Grundy Counties. The clinic also has a satellite office in Morris, located at 1345 N. Edwards Street, which provides care for Grundy County residents on the first Friday of each month.

On March 15, Will-Grundy Medical Clinic will celebrate its 30th Anniversary Gala at the beautiful Bolingbrook Golf Club. It will be an elegant night to honor and recognize our volunteer medical providers, nurses, students, and community partners. Sponsorship and tickets to the Gala are still available.

If you have inquiries about qualifying as a patient, would like to volunteer, or would like to tour the clinic, please call Lynnette Doherty at 815-726-3377.
